Menstrual Disc FAQs
What are bohokiwi menstrual discs made from?
Our menstrual discs are made from 100% medical-grade silicone. They're flexible, reusable and designed for comfortable period care.
What sizes do bohokiwi menstrual discs come in?
We offer two sizes because different bodies need different options.
Small Disc
-
Capacity: 45 ml
-
Diameter: 61 mm
-
Height: 35 mm
Regular Disc
-
Capacity: 60 ml
-
Diameter: 68 mm
-
Height: 39 mm
The Small has a narrower diameter, while the Regular offers greater capacity. The right fit depends on your individual anatomy and comfort, not simply your age, body size or flow.
How does a bohokiwi menstrual disc work?
Unlike a menstrual cup, which forms a seal against the vaginal walls, a menstrual disc sits higher in the vaginal canal, just below the cervix.
It's tucked behind the pubic bone to help keep it in place and collects menstrual fluid rather than absorbing it.
How long can I wear my menstrual disc?
You can wear your bohokiwi menstrual disc for up to 12 hours, depending on your flow.
On heavier days, you may need to empty it more frequently.
Can I have sex while wearing a menstrual disc?
You sure can! Menstrual discs can be worn during penetrative vaginal sex and may help reduce menstrual mess.
However, they don't guarantee mess-free sex and aren't contraception or protection against sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
Will I get blood on my hands when removing my disc?
It's possible, especially while you're learning.
Our menstrual discs feature a flexible removal ring designed to make removal easier. It may take a few tries, but you'll soon find the technique that works best for you.
Can I use a menstrual disc with an IUD?
Menstrual discs may be suitable for people with an IUD, but we recommend checking with your healthcare professional first.
Take care during removal to avoid catching or pulling your IUD strings.
Can I exercise or swim while wearing my disc?
Absolutely! Menstrual discs are designed to let you get on with everyday activities, including swimming, exercise and travelling.
A comfortable, secure fit is important for reducing leaks.
Can I sleep with my menstrual disc in?
Yes. You can wear your bohokiwi menstrual disc overnight for up to 12 hours, depending on your flow.
How long will my bohokiwi menstrual disc last?
Your bohokiwi menstrual disc can last up to 10 years when properly cared for.
To help it last, follow the recommended cleaning and storage instructions. Check your disc regularly and replace it if you notice tears, cracks, damage or deterioration.
How do I clean my menstrual disc?
Wash your hands before handling your disc. After emptying it, rinse and wash it according to the product care instructions before reinserting.
Clean and sanitise your disc thoroughly between periods. You can use a bohokiwi steriliser according to its instructions.
How do I store my menstrual disc?
Once you've finished using your disc for the month, clean and sanitise it, then allow it to dry completely.
Store it in the bohokiwi cotton drawstring bag provided with your disc.
Our sterilisers are designed for cleaning and sanitising, not long-term storage.
